Every time a trigger fires, each active automation on it runs once and records the result. This article covers where to see those runs and what to do when one did not go as planned.
The list
Under Automations, each row shows the trigger, the actions, Status (Active or Inactive), Total runs and Last run. Switch between All, Active and Inactive with the tabs, search by name, and sort by last run or name. The menu on each row has Edit, Activate or Deactivate, and Delete.
The activity log
Open an automation. The Activity log card lists recent runs with when they ran and their status. A waiting run also shows when it resumes.
Success | Every action ran. |
Partial | Some actions ran, at least one failed. See the reasons below. |
Failed | No action succeeded, or something unexpected stopped the run. |
Skipped | A condition was not met, so no action ran. Skipped runs are not counted in Total runs. |
Waiting | Paused on a Wait for step. Resumes at the time shown. |
Cancelled | Was waiting when the automation was edited, deactivated or deleted. |
Pending | Just triggered, about to run. |
It never runs
Status is Inactive | Open it, set Status to Active, save. |
Wrong trigger | Check the event you are causing matches the trigger. Emailing a quote fires Emailed, not Created. |
Plan | Automations only run on plans that include them. |
It shows Skipped
A condition stopped it. Check each one against the actual request or ShopQuote. A condition on data that is missing counts as not met, for example a Market condition on a quote with no shipping address, or a Form answer condition on a field the customer left blank.
It shows Partial or Failed
Common causes, by action.
Send an email to the customer | No primary sender connected, email not in your plan, or the monthly email allowance is used up. Fix under Email notifications. |
Send an email to staff | No recipients on the New quote request notification and no Send to address on the action. |
Create the ShopQuote | You are at your plan's limit of active ShopQuotes, or the request only has custom items and nothing from your catalogue. |
Apply a discount | Shopify rejected it, for example a percentage over 100 or a draft order that can no longer be edited. |
Tag the customer in Shopify | No Shopify customer has the quote's email address. |
Anything on a ShopQuote | The action ran before a ShopQuote existed. Move Create the ShopQuote above it. |
It ran more than once
Viewed, checkout clicked and QR scanned fire on every occurrence. Add a Quote tag condition and a Tag the ShopQuote action so the second run is skipped.
Waiting runs and edits
When you save changes to, deactivate, or delete an automation that has runs paused on a Wait for step, those runs are cancelled and will not finish. ShopQuotes asks you to confirm first. If you only need to stop new runs, wait for the paused ones to finish before editing.
