Automation triggers

The events that can start an automation, and when each one fires.

The trigger is the event that starts an automation. Choose it in the Trigger card of the builder. It decides what the automation is about, a quote request or a ShopQuote, and therefore which conditions and actions you can add.

Quote request trigger

About a request a customer has just submitted. No ShopQuote exists yet.

A customer requests a quote

Fires once, when a customer submits the quote request form on your store.

On this trigger you can read the request total, quantity, products, form answers, and email domain, and you can create the ShopQuote from the request.

ShopQuote triggers

About a ShopQuote you have built and sent, whether by hand or by an automation.

A ShopQuote is created

Fires once, when a ShopQuote is created. By you, from a request, or by another automation.

A ShopQuote is emailed to the customer

Fires when you email the ShopQuote from ShopQuotes.

A ShopQuote is viewed

Fires every time the customer opens the quote page. Not just the first time.

A ShopQuote checkout link is clicked

Fires every time the customer clicks through to checkout.

A ShopQuote is accepted (Completed)

Fires once, when the customer completes checkout and the order is placed.

A ShopQuote expires unaccepted

Fires once, when the expiration date passes without an order.

A ShopQuote QR code is scanned

Fires every time the quote's QR code is scanned.

Note: Viewed, checkout clicked and QR scanned are repeating events. An automation on one of them runs on every occurrence that passes its conditions. Add a condition such as Times viewed greater than 3, or a Quote tag check, if you want it to act only once.

What the trigger changes

The builder hides anything that cannot work on the trigger you picked.

Create the ShopQuote from the request

Only on the quote request trigger, and only once per automation.

Discount, expiration, tag and note on the ShopQuote

Need a ShopQuote. Available on every ShopQuote trigger, or after a Create action on the request trigger.

Tag the customer in Shopify

Only on ShopQuote triggers, where a Shopify customer is known.

Form answer condition

Only on the quote request trigger, where the form answers exist.

Times viewed condition

Hidden on A ShopQuote is created, where the count is always zero.

Accepted (Completed) trigger

Discount, expiration, tag and note are hidden. The quote is done. Only email actions remain useful.

Changing the trigger later

If you switch a saved automation to a different kind of trigger, conditions and actions that no longer apply are removed. Check the Summary card before saving.
