Connect SendGrid

Send ShopQuotes emails through your SendGrid account.

SendGrid is a sending service for businesses that want quotes to go out from their own domain without tying them to one person's mailbox. Connect it with an API key.

Note: Available on paid plans. You need a SendGrid account with a verified sender.

Before you begin

SendGrid only sends from addresses it has verified. There are two ways to do this. Domain Authentication is better for deliverability.

Domain Authentication

Verifies your whole domain, so any address on it can send. In SendGrid: Settings > Sender Authentication > Authenticate Your Domain.

Single Sender Verification

Verifies one address, confirmed by email. In SendGrid: Settings > Sender Authentication > Verify a Single Sender.

Then create an API key under Settings > API Keys. Choose Full Access, or Restricted Access with Mail Send and read access to Sender Authentication. Copy the key. SendGrid only shows it once.

Connect

  1. Go to Email notifications > Email providers.

  2. Under Custom provider, choose SendGrid.

  3. Enter the From email. It must be a verified Single Sender or on an authenticated domain.

  4. Enter a From name, usually your store name.

  5. Paste the API key.

  6. Click Add sender. ShopQuotes checks the key and the sender with SendGrid before saving.

Note: If this is your first sender, it becomes your primary sender automatically and customer emails go out from it. If you already had one, open the new sender's menu under Manage senders and click Make primary to switch.

Replies

Customers reply to the From address. If that mailbox does not exist, replies bounce. Use an address with a real inbox, or set up a forward for it at your email host.

If something goes wrong

What you see, and what to do.

SendGrid API key is invalid or revoked

The key was mistyped or deleted. Create a new one in SendGrid and try again.

SendGrid rejected the API key (403)

The key does not have the right permissions. Create a Full Access key, or add Mail Send and Sender Authentication read access to the restricted key.

Not a verified sender in SendGrid

The From email is neither a verified Single Sender nor on an authenticated domain. Finish verification in SendGrid, then try again.

Could not reach SendGrid

SendGrid did not respond. Wait a minute and try again.

Sender shows Invalid

The key stopped working, usually because it was deleted in SendGrid. Create a new key and update it under Change settings.

Emails land in spam

Switch from Single Sender to Domain Authentication and add the DNS records SendGrid gives you. Check Activity in SendGrid for the delivery status of a test email.

Change the key or address

Open the sender's menu, click Change settings, update the fields and click Save changes.
